Mark Schieferstein was born in Fort Wayne, Indiana in 1973 and studied at the University of Saint Francis. After nearly twenty six years in Indiana, he decided to relocate to Asheville, NC and further his career. Working as a wholesale picture framer and artist he has been involved in the art community since 1999.

A self-described minimalist Schieferstein's art reflects his life style. He focuses on how the bodies are interacting, rather than what's in the space around them. These often sepia never-lands expose the cruelty of intimacy and depict a vision of darkness. Increasingly erotic and always unapologetic, Schieferstein blends a Renaissance attitude toward the human form with a very contemporary mood of frankness and self-discovery.
